‘Supply medicine to PHC’

Expressing the anger at college authority, Patey Tayum, a representative from parents said, “We are neither against the college authority nor against anyone but we are against system in college.”

Meet with power developers and project affected
Aalo, May 16: In its endeavour to assess the overall progress of hydro power projects under Mechuka subdivision and to do away the wave of apprehensions among the people, a marathon tripartite meeting among the district administration, representatives from power developers, project affected people involving the Parliamentary Secretary Tourism P.D. Sona was held under the chairmanship of West Siang ADC Kanki Darang in the Conference Hall here yesterday.
They held separate meetings with Velcan and JP at a go to settle all key issues.
Speaking on the occasion, the Parliamentary Secretary and Mechuka MLA expressed his gratitude to the district administration for conducting the public hearing of Neying hydro power project despite hurdles. He said that the meeting was convened with a sole motive to interact with each other in a transparent manner to solve all core issues of the dam affected people and the company’s responsibility towards tribal people so that a proper platform and a conducive atmosphere is built to start property survey works in time. Urging the people to take a soft stand on the issue, the MLA appealed the people to take a long term vision as the projects would not only to hasten economic development of our backward people but also benefit entire state and the nation. He also asked the power developers to accommodate the interest and sentiments of the tribal to embark upon their ambitious projects and involve technocrats of the area in engineering wing.

Five burnt to death, 1 injured
Pasighat, May 16: Five persons were burnt to death when a devastating fire gutted down a SPT building at Ngopok village under Mebo circle yesterday.
The deceased have been identified as Okiling Megu, 12, Olik Yirang, 16, Karneil Gamango, 35, Biju Das, 18 and Darbin Gurung, 28.
Atting Yirang, the owner of the house, has been admitted to the General Hospital Pasighat with burn injuries.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.

According to the report hundreds of Assam citizens led by one Vivek Das carried out bike rally inside Arunachal village at Tarasso and shouted slogan against Arunachal. The incident took place around 10.30 am in the morning.
The rallyists holding red flags were believed to be supporters of Vivek Das, who is CPI (ML) leader from Borgang under Sonitpur district of Assam. Many of them were believed to be carrying arms. They shouted Arunachalee “Go back to Hill” and “leave our land”.

APYC, APCU provide relief to Boasimla fire victims
ITANAGAR, May 16: A team of Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) led by its president Tadar Niglar distributed relief materials and few cash amounts to recent fire victims of Boasimla on May 15.
While distributing the relief items, Niglar appealed to the Director of Relief and Rehabilitation Department to immediately sanction relief materials to the victims. He said that the victims are facing hardship in collecting raw materials for rebuilding their houses due to bamboo flowering.
Describing that the usual relief amount of Rs 4000 per house being granted to the victims was not logical, he appealed to the Government to increase the relief amount and provide it to the victims on the basis of the gravity of damage caused to them. The Arunachal Pradesh Catholic Union (APCU) team led by its president Tok Butum visited the victims of the fire accident at Boasimla and distributed relief materials to 52 affected families.

Govt declares AAPSU bandh illegal
ITANAGAR, May 16: The government has declared the proposed All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) bandh call on May 18 as illegal and unjustified as it warned of stern action against bandh callers.
The Parliamentary Secretary Home Gadam Ete said that it had responded to the AAPSU’s five point charter of demand and had proposed meeting to hold with its executive members which was turned down by the Union.
Ete further accused the students of repeatedly ignoring the goodwill gesture shown by the government. The govt further said that AAPSU must act maturely and refrain from such illegal activities for the greater interest of students, general public and citizens. Such bandh calls not only hamper the development activities but also bring bad name to the state, he added
He said that there is tranferency in handling of financial matters while adding that the crime rate and case ratio in the state has been reduced considerably after Nabam Tuki took over as the Home Minister. ITANAGAR, May 16: Weighed down by criticism at the handling of public hearings to pave way for hydro electric projects in the state, Arunachal Pradesh Government termed it as wrong propaganda spread by some organizations.
Parliamentary Secretary Hydro Power R T Khunjuju said that it has to be understood that engaging security forces is not to disturb peace but to maintain law and order for greater interest of majority of its common citizens.
He further said that deployment of security forces for conduction of public hearings is a decision taken by the local administration in view of threat perception of violence or destruction of public properties as witnessed earlier. This is only a preventive measure and not a tactic to create fear psychosis amongst the public as alleged, the statement added.

ZIRO, May 16: Ziro, the district headquarters of Lower Subansiri with compact population
and ascending literacy rate is known as one of the most beautiful and fascinating
Valleys that attracts huge chunk of domestic as well as international visitors every
year. The Valley boasts of breathtaking landscapes, fish-
A visitor first lands at Hapoli and then enquires whereabouts of beautiful valley Ziro. They are not to be blamed because every signboard put up there in market place read as Hapoli.
Sometimes it becomes quite embarrassing for a commoner to explain when a visitor wants to know about Ziro or Hapoli.
To make him understand, the most appropriate answer would be that ‘government offices are at Ziro while the commercial centers are located at Hapoli. The visitors would presume that, the road from Pai Gate to District Hospital running alongside DC Office and Post Office will be the boundary line between Ziro and Hapoli. Only this ornamental explanation can perhaps convince the answer seekers.
Ziro was made HQ for Subansiri Division (present Old Ziro) decades back till it was shifted to Hapoli in 1960.
After shifting, the government renamed Hapoli as Ziro and the original Ziro as Old Ziro on 15th August, 1960 on the eve of 14th Independence Day. The rationale behind shifting was for easy access for general population and renaming Hapoli as Ziro might have been for the convenience of official file process and other correspondences. The government changed Hapoli to Ziro but Hapoli did never get due recognition as district headquarters. It was a mistake.
Though government recognized Hapoli as Ziro as the district HQ of Lower Subansiri in 1960, locals here does not accept it even after 52 years of its declaration. For them, Hapoli remains as Hapoli (original name Haopolyang) and old Ziro remains as Ziro. It is seemingly established that their mental setup will never change on the subject. If we ask a shopkeeper opposite DC office, he would say his shop is at Hapoli. On the other hand if you ask an employee of DC office, he will say his office name is ‘DC office Ziro’.
The people of Bamin-
It is a fact that the process of renaming of cities or towns of India started after the end of the British era in 1947. The process of returning to originality started in 1948 with renaming of Jajesmow to Jajmau and subsequently in 1995, 1996 and 2001 the metropolitan cities of Bombay, Madras and Calcutta were renamed as Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. In 2006, south Indian city Pondicherry was renamed as Puducherry while North East India’s leading commercial centre of Gauhati was renamed as Guwahati. Arunachal Pradesh too is not behind in the process by renaming Along to Aalo in recent years.
The road to rename is in place and therefore in line with others, the name of Lower Subansiri district HQ should also be changed to Haopolyang, the original name of the place for better communication and exposure.
However, as regards to change of Hapoli to Haopolyang, the Haopolyang Residence Right Forum (HRRF) under the Chairmanship of Michi Tamang and Secretary Kuru Tago is taking up the matter. In broader way, considering people’s unwillingness to accept Hapoli as Ziro, the HRRF should also initiate renaming of district HQ from Ziro to Haopolyang as the HQ is located at Haopolyang not at Ziro.

It is a plea to the government of Arunachal Pradesh to take some initiative to shift the “Office of the Director of Census Operation, Arunachal Pradesh” located in Shillong, Meghalaya to Itanagar Capital Complex for the interest of the Research Scholars in particular and public in general.
As a matter of fact, many do not know the existence of office and it will be convenient for the stakeholders such as scholars and policymaker to access the data if it is located in its own state or capital. Shifting of the office will benefit the people of Arunachal Pradesh in many ways.
